Joss Whedon to do a new TV series

Posted by jasongin on Saturday, November 3, 2007

And it will be on FOX!? Has he forgotten what they did to Firefly?? Admittedly, Joss does sound in interviews like he is not getting his hopes up too high just yet.

The new show will star Eliza Dushku (the scene-stealing other slayer from Buffy), and will also involve Tim Minear (writer/director/producer from Angel and Firefly). So I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least a few guest appearances of other past Whedonverse denizens, since you know, they’re like one big family.

The project is (tentatively?) titled Dollhouse "because that’s the nickname of the high-tech lab where a group of human chalkboards are kept between assignments. Human chalkboards?! Yes! What else would you call characters like Dushku’s Echo who can be given new memories, skills and even personalities, then stripped of them just as quickly, leaving them virtual children?"

If all goes well, Dollhouse is set to premier on FOX in the fall of 2008.

Read more at TVGuide.com, or the show’s premature fan site which seems to have coalesced overnight out of the hopes and dreams of browncoats and Whedon worshippers everywhere.

I know many of you out there have a high respect for Orson Scott Card. Well, he has some great things to say about Serenity.

I just saw Serenity (no spoilers here)

Posted by jasongin on Friday, September 30, 2005

Wow! I was already expecting to love this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is indeed everything you loved about Firefly only bigger, shinier, and definitely darker. Overall it is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. There maybe have been a couple inconsequential details that bugged me or didn’t make sense, but perhaps I just need another viewing or ten.

Would I have liked it as much if I wasn’t already a Firefly flan? I have to admit, probably not quite. The fact that I already knew and cared about the characters certainly made the whole thing more gripping. But still, for the uninitiated viewer Serenity has got to be more entertaining than almost any other recent sci-fi movie. This explains its good, but not great, tomatometer rating.

I will probably write more when it’s not 3am, and after most of you have seen it so I don’t have to worry as much about spoilers. Meanwhile, let’s all pray Serenity makes enough money at the box office to warrant a sequel or two.

Thank you Joss.

Serenity trailer to premier with HHGttG

Posted by jasongin on Monday, April 18, 2005

This is the current rumor, anyway. The Serenity trailer will premier in front of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie which opens on Friday April 29th, less than two weeks from now. I was already planning to see it, even though it can’t possibly do justice to the late Douglas Adams’ hilarious books, which I have read several times.

"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

– Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

For anyone not going to see HHGttG, I’ll post a link to the Serenity trailer here as soon as it’s available online.

If you don’t know what this "Serenity" is that I’m talking about, then I demand you drop whatever you’re doing and immediately buy, borrow, or steal the Firefly DVDs, watch, and you will be converted. Then wait impatiently for the coming movie.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN’ SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn."

–Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly
